Doosan Enerbility and Siemens Gamesa recently signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to explore strategic cooperation in offshore wind power. The MoU was signed in Copenhagen (Denmark) and covers potential collaboration between the companies on several fronts that are Korea-focused. These include collaboration on large-scale offshore turbines, the sharing of major services, including construction of new Korean production plants, supply of wind turbine parts and installation of offshore turbines.
Doosan Enerbility will contribute to the strategic MoU its experience, domestic production base and business capabilities. This will complement Siemens Gamesa’s global offshore wind know-how. The MoU will explore potential products and services that can be used in the Korean offshore wind market. It will also examine the Korean domestic supply chain, and related industries. It will also study the potential for job creation and industrialization on the Korean offshore wind energy market.

Strong partnerships based on mutual commitments are essential to leading the offshore revolution.” Marc Becker, CEO, Siemens Gamesa Offshore Business Unit, says that he envisions a strong alliance between the two companies. This will foster the Korean offshore wind industry, and contribute to its growth.
Becker was the leader of the Siemens Gamesa delegation at the signing ceremony. He joined forces with Seung-woo Sohn, Doosan Enerbility’s Executive Vice President responsible for Power Service Sales and Marketing and the leader of Doosan Enerbility’s delegation.
Doosan Enerbility’s Seung-woo Sohn stated, “By combining SGRE’s global business knowledge with our technological capabilities accumulated over many years, we will have the ability to improve our competitiveness in offshore wind power.” They will also work together to revive the offshore wind power industry in Korea.
Siemens Gamesa is the largest manufacturer of offshore wind turbines in the world. Siemens Gamesa has installed over 19.4 GW offshore wind power capacity worldwide. The company’s SG14-222 DD offshore wind turbine is the largest in operation. Siemens Gamesa is known for its commitment to innovation and product development.
Doosan Enerbility has been the only Korean manufacturer to have a supply record in the country’s offshore wind power market since 2005. This includes Tamra Offshore Wind Power (30MW), and Southwest Offshore Wind Power Phase 1 (60MW). It is Korea’s representative offshore wind power company, with capabilities in all aspects of the wind power business, from wind farm development, EPC and O&M.
