RWE has entered into two 15-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Microsoft Corporation. These agreements entail Microsoft procuring clean electricity from two newly established RWE onshore wind farms in Texas.
The RWE Peyton Creek II onshore wind farm has recently broken ground, and RWE has committed to investing in the Lane City project. Together, these two onshore wind projects boast a total capacity of 446 megawatts (MW).
RWE has partnered with leading renewable industry companies Vestas, Wanzek Construction, Inc. (a MasTec Renewables company), and RES to construct the Peyton Creek II and Lane City onshore wind farms. Vestas North America’s V163 4.5 MW turbines will be utilized by RWE for these projects. Wanzek and RES will oversee construction activities at Peyton Creek II and Lane City on behalf of RWE. Construction is currently underway for the Peyton Creek Wind Complex, a 243 MW project situated near RWE’s Peyton Creek I wind farm in Bay City, Texas, operational since March 2020. Construction for the Lane City project, boasting a capacity of 203 MW, will commence this summer.
Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, said, “As RWE, we are excited to be working with Microsoft to provide the clean electricity they need to achieve their sustainability goals. Together, we’re united in our efforts to deliver a clean energy future. As a growing green business, we are committed to driving our renewable targets, supporting local communities grow sustainably.”
