Vind AI, a pioneering firm in wind park design, has announced a successful €3 million seed funding round led by Norrsken VC. The round saw participation from Spacemaker founders, Arkwright X, and the company’s employees.
The wind industry faces significant challenges as it works towards meeting ambitious goals set by the European Commission, which aims for wind energy to account for 50% of Europe’s energy by 2050, up from the current 11%. Traditional tools for planning and designing wind projects have not fully embraced modern software capabilities, including artificial intelligence (AI). Vind AI seeks to address this gap with its innovative platform.
Vind AI offers an advanced online tool designed for the early phases of wind project development up to pre-FEED (Front End Engineering Design). The platform leverages cutting-edge software development and AI to model every aspect of a wind project before construction begins, enabling more efficient and cost-effective design decisions. The company’s technology allows users to test various turbine placements and cable configurations to optimize energy production while minimizing costs.
Current clients of Vind AI include major industry players such as TotalEnergies, RWE, and Corio. Neil Koronka, Technical Authority at Corio Generation, commended the platform, stating, “Vind AI’s platform provides the enhanced speed and flexibility needed to evaluate high volumes of scenarios efficiently, optimize site performance, and assess new opportunities. The rapid energy production analyses and customization options significantly increase our ability to evaluate key sensitivities and deliver high-quality wind farm design concepts.”
Wind turbines, once installed, typically remain in place for over 25 years. As such, proper placement is crucial, with limited opportunities for adjustments post-installation. Vind AI’s platform facilitates real-time data analysis on wind patterns, grid connections, environmental constraints, and social factors such as visual impact, helping users make informed decisions and mitigate potential issues before construction.
Helene Bøhler, CEO and Co-Founder of Vind AI, expressed the company’s vision, saying, “As the wind industry prepares for substantial growth, we aim to become the industry standard for both offshore and onshore wind projects and energy storage. Our goal is to support and advance renewable energy with the best technology available, helping the industry meet global sustainability demands.”
Alexander Danielsson, Partner at Norrsken VC, highlighted the importance of Vind AI’s contribution to the wind industry. “We are thrilled to support Vind AI in an industry poised for explosive growth. Achieving wind energy goals necessitates streamlined and cost-effective project design and implementation, which Vind AI is facilitating. We look forward to partnering with the team on this exciting journey.”
Vind AI plans to utilize the new funding to expand its customer base and further develop its product. The company will also grow its team by hiring industry experts, software designers, developers, and commercial staff.
