Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), one of India’s leading oil and gas companies and a Fortune Global 500 firm, has taken a significant step in its renewable energy journey by awarding contracts for 100 MW of wind power projects. The contracts have been given to two companies—Suzlon Energy Limited and Integrum Energy Infrastructure Limited. Each company will develop a 50 MW wind farm, with Suzlon setting up the project in Madhya Pradesh and Integrum handling the project in Maharashtra.

The wind farms are scheduled to be completed and commissioned within the next two years. These projects are part of BPCL’s ongoing efforts to transition from conventional fossil fuel-based energy sources to clean, renewable energy. The electricity generated from these wind farms will be used to meet the internal power requirements of BPCL’s two major refineries—one located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and the other in Bina, Madhya Pradesh.

By using wind energy to power its refinery operations, BPCL aims to significantly reduce its dependence on imported fossil-based electricity. This move supports the company’s sustainability goals and helps it align with India’s broader commitment to cleaner energy sources. The switch to renewable energy for its internal operations is also expected to reduce carbon emissions and improve overall energy efficiency within the organization.

This development is also a major part of BPCL’s larger renewable energy strategy. The company has set an ambitious goal of building a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2040. Achieving this target will support BPCL’s broader mission to become a net-zero energy company in terms of Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by the same year.

The awarding of these wind power projects underlines BPCL’s commitment to adopting sustainable energy solutions and reducing its environmental footprint. The initiative not only highlights the company’s proactive approach to clean energy but also reflects the growing momentum within India’s energy sector toward the adoption of large-scale renewable energy projects.
