Iberdrola España, the Group’s Spanish subsidiary, and FCC Ámbito have officially opened EnergyLOOP in Navarra, northern Spain — the first facility on the Iberian Peninsula dedicated exclusively to recycling wind turbine blades. This pioneering plant addresses one of the renewable energy sector’s most pressing long-term challenges: the sustainable disposal and repurposing of materials from decommissioned wind turbines and other renewable infrastructure.

Designed to recover and repurpose the components of wind turbine blades, the plant will supply materials for various industries including energy, aerospace, automotive, textiles, chemicals, and construction. This initiative marks a significant step toward establishing a circular economy in the wind energy sector. Backed by Iberdrola through its PERSEO program, the project represents a €10 million investment and is expected to support a dynamic, innovation-driven value chain. With an estimated 5,700 wind turbines to be dismantled annually in Europe by 2030, the facility positions Spain as a leader in sustainable wind energy practices.
