The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a clarification regarding the “Revised Guidelines for Installation of Prototype Wind Turbine Models” that were released on 12th June 2025. Specifically addressing clause 1(ii)(e) of the guidelines, the ministry has clarified that a revised recommendation letter for grid synchronization of prototype wind turbine models may be issued by the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE).

This is applicable to prototype models that were previously recommended by NIWE under the earlier guidelines. However, this revised recommendation is subject to an important condition: the earlier recommendation letter from NIWE must have been issued after the release date of the IECRE type-certification scheme, Edition 3.0, which was published on 25th October 2022.

This condition also extends to wind turbine variants or alternative configurations that belong to the same turbine type. The clarification has been issued with the approval of the competent authority to ensure smooth implementation of the revised guidelines.
