RWE has commissioned four new wind farms and one solar power plant across France this summer, adding a total of 83 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity. The projects, located in the Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions, were initiated in 2024 following RWE’s success in the French Energy Regulatory Commission’s (CRE) 2023 onshore wind and solar tenders.
In the Hauts-de-France region, RWE brought the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm online with 21.6 MW from six turbines in the municipality of Catillon-Fumechon. The Catésis-Bois Marronnier wind farm, with 29.2 MW from eight turbines, was installed across the municipalities of Troivilles and Reumont. Additionally, four turbines generating 19.2 MW were added to the existing Nouvions wind farm.
In Normandy, the Ormesnil wind farm was commissioned with 9.6 MW from two turbines. In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, RWE completed the Les Pierrières photovoltaic plant in Ardillières, installing 7,420 solar modules with a total capacity of 4.2 MWp.
Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlighted the achievement. “The commissioning of our five new wind and solar farms within just a few weeks is testament to the capabilities of our French teams in managing multiple projects simultaneously. A big thank you to the RWE team, the local communities, and all the companies and partners involved,” she said. “These projects can supply green electricity to around 40,000 French households. In our journey to support France in building a clean, stable, and cost-effective energy supply, we are using the French wind and sun. Looking ahead, the next projects are already in the starting blocks.”
Next Phase of Expansion Underway
RWE is now preparing for further expansion in France. The company secured 82 MW of onshore wind capacity in the 2024 tenders and currently operates a total of 265 MW of wind and solar capacity in the country. The next wave of projects is set to further bolster France’s renewable energy infrastructure and contribute to the nation’s energy transition goals.
