Senvion India marked a major milestone in renewable energy innovation with the unveiling of its 4.2 MW wind turbine generator (WTG) prototype at Windergy India 2025, held at the Chennai Trade Centre. The launch ceremony was graced by Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Hon’ble Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
Developed on Senvion’s modular 4XM platform and featuring over 85% India-sourced components, the new 4.2M160 turbine combines a 160-metre rotor with advanced control systems and data-driven operations and maintenance (O&M) to enhance annual energy production while reducing the levelised cost of energy (LCOE). Designed and engineered in India, the platform is adaptable to varied wind regimes across global markets.
Highlighting the significance of the launch, Minister Pralhad Joshi commended the Senvion team, noting that the 4.2 MW turbine stands as “a testimony to the success of the Make in India initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership” and a key step toward achieving the nation’s 500 GW renewable energy target. He emphasised that with around 80–85% of the equipment sourced locally, the turbine represents India’s growing self-reliance in clean energy manufacturing under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Amit Kansal, CEO & Managing Director of Senvion India, expressed pride in the company’s achievement, stating, “We promised a modern, modular, deeply localised platform that helps IPPs capture more energy at a lower lifecycle cost, and we’re delivering. The 4.2M160 is operational, generating, and ready to scale with our suppliers and partners.”
The prototype was developed by a diverse team of Indian engineers and global R&D experts, showcasing Senvion’s inclusive and innovation-driven approach to clean energy manufacturing. The 4XM platform enables rapid variant introduction and shorter lead times for project-specific configurations, with serial production expected to commence in 2026.
With 1.5 GW of wind capacity already commissioned in India and a robust 500+ MW project pipeline, Senvion India continues to strengthen its domestic manufacturing, supply chain, and R&D capabilities—advancing India’s 2030 renewable energy goals and reinforcing its leadership in sustainable wind power solutions.
