Rail Energy Management Company Limited has partnered with POWERCON for the long-term operation and maintenance of its 26 MW wind power project located at Dangri in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. REMCL is a public sector enterprise of the Government of India and a joint venture of the Ministry of Railways and RITES Limited. The contract became effective from December 16, 2025, and will run for a period of ten years.
The wind project consists of 13 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 2 MW, supplied by InoxWind and based on AMSC technology. These turbines have successfully completed their first ten years of operation under the original equipment manufacturer. As the project moves into the second phase of its operational life, the assets require deeper technical attention and focused management to maintain performance and extend their lifespan.
Under the agreement, POWERCON will be responsible for restoring and managing the technical health of the turbines. The company will first carry out a detailed assessment of the turbines and associated unit substations. Based on this evaluation, POWERCON will identify technical gaps, address existing issues, and bring the machines back to optimal operating condition. This step is critical as the turbines are now entering a more demanding phase of operation.
The wind project is located in a harsh desert environment that experiences frequent sandstorms, high dust levels, and wide variations in temperature. Such conditions increase wear and tear on equipment and demand specialised technical skills and strong asset management practices. POWERCON’s role will involve handling these challenges through structured maintenance, analytical diagnostics, and performance-focused operational strategies.
The engagement has been planned in two phases. The first phase will focus on detailed technical diagnostics and remediation activities. This includes restoring full functionality, ensuring safety systems are reliable, and stabilising turbine performance. Once this phase is completed, the project will move into the second phase, which spans ten years. During this period, the focus will be on achieving high energy availability, improving productivity, enhancing reliability, and extending the life of the wind assets.
REMCL stated that the selection of POWERCON followed a rigorous technical evaluation under an open competitive bidding process. The company sees this partnership as a strategic step aligned with its mission to promote clean, green, and resilient power solutions. REMCL expects that POWERCON’s domain expertise will help improve energy generation and maximise output from the existing installed capacity.
POWERCON’s Founder and CEO, Praveen Kakulte, said the company values the trust placed in it by a major public sector enterprise. He added that POWERCON understands the responsibility involved and will focus on disciplined execution, strong technical governance, and consistent performance improvement to ensure the turbines operate at their best over the long term.
POWERCON brings experience in managing multiple wind turbine platforms, including AMSC-technology InoxWind turbines. The company has worked with leading independent power producers such as Tata Power, NTPC, SJVN, ReNew, Apraava Energy, O2 Power, and Serentica. With this background, POWERCON is expected to support REMCL in improving reliability, increasing energy output, and ensuring sustainable performance of the wind project over the next decade.
