The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Renewable Energy Laboratory plans to issue a request for proposals in September 2020 for colleges and universities interested in participating in the DOE Collegiate Wind Competition in the spring of 2022. The competition is designed to help prepare college students from a variety of backgrounds for careers in wind energy.

By March 2021, organizers will select up to 12 teams of students to compete in the challenge, which will be co-located with the American Wind Energy Association’s CLEANPOWER Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in May of 2021.

The 2022 competition will challenge students to design, build, and test a model wind turbine. In addition, teams will plan, financially analyze, and present research on a hypothetical wind power plant. Interested students and faculty can learn more about the competition and the application requirements by visiting the Beta SAM listing.
