Timken Bearings for World’s Most Powerful Offshore Wind Turbine, GE’s Haliade-X

The Timken Company, a global industrial leader for engineered bearings, power transmission products and power transmission products, announced recently that it will design and supply main shaft bearings to GE Renewable Energy’s HaliadeX, which is the world’s largest offshore wind turbine. Each HaliadeX turbine can produce up to 74 GWh per year and has a power output of 14 MW. In 2023, the first Haliade-X installations will be completed.

Andreas Roellgen (Timken vice president Europe, Asia and Africa), said that it was an honor to be a part of taking wind energy to the next stage with this landmark in turbine technology. “As turbine makers like GE push the limits of performance to expand renewable energy options. We’re here to help them overcome their challenges with our technical problem solving expertise and long history in engineering innovation.”

Timken and GE first worked together on a wind project to supply bearings for Haliade 1 (6 MW) which was the precursor to Haliade-X. Parc du Banc de Guerande will be operational in the latter part of this year. It is an offshore wind farm off France that will have 80 Haliade 1 turbines and Timken bearings.

Timken’s fourth consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth in renewable energy markets saw a record four years. Last year, the company achieved record-breaking sales in wind energy and is well positioned for future success. The company has seen record sales in wind energy over the past five years and is ready to capitalise further.

Timken has targeted capital investments to support future growth. This includes more than $75 million in 2022 to expand its renewable energy capabilities. Renewable energy is Timken’s largest end-market segment, accounting for 12 percent of company sales in 2021.
