SMC has signed a contract to provide Offshore Resources and Services for RWE’s 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm during the project’s offshore development, which is set to begin this year.

SMC will provide a turnkey package that includes above-water offshore balance of plant works such as statutory inspection and general maintenance of transition pieces, marine coordination resourcing, vessel inspection delivery, project PPE management, specialist offshore construction resourcing, project consultancy support, and all associated project management.

Similar work was done for RWE at the now-operational Triton Knoll offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom.

The 1.4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm will be developed on Dogger Bank in the middle North Sea, 195 kilometres from the UK coast, and will feature 100 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines.

The project, when completed in 2026, will be one of the world’s largest single offshore wind farms.
