RWE secures two projects in the Federal Network Agency’s latest onshore wind farm auction, planning to construct and operate wind farms in North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein. Expected to be commissioned in 2025, these ten turbines will generate ample green electricity for approximately 42,000 households.

RWE is set to construct the Aldenhoven wind farm on reclaimed sections of the Inden open-cast mine, generating 34.2 MW to power approximately 24,000 households annually after its 2025 commissioning. Simultaneously, the Lasbek wind farm in Hamburg will be repowered, with six existing turbines replaced by four more powerful ones.

Scheduled for winter 2024/2025 construction, the upgraded farm, boasting a 22.8 MW capacity, will provide green electricity for around 18,000 households. The RWE team will initiate road construction and site setup in Q1 2024 for Aldenhoven, demonstrating a commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said, “I am delighted that with the new wind farms we are laying further foundations for the energy transition in our home market of Germany. My thanks go to our development team as well as the authorities involved at both locations. Their speediness in approving a wind farm within just over a year shows that faster approval procedures can go from being the exception to the rule.”
