In the recent onshore wind turbine auction by the Federal Network Agency, RWE secured the tender for the Kail wind farm in the Cochem-Zell district. This project involves erecting three wind turbines with a total capacity of 12.9 megawatts (MW) near the Moselle River, approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Koblenz. Construction is slated to commence in autumn of this year, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. Once operational, this Rhineland-Palatinate wind farm will have the capacity to provide renewable electricity to approximately 7,500 households.
Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said,“The latest figures confirm the record expansion of renewable energy in Germany. I am delighted that we are making a further contribution to the energy transition in our home market with this wind farm. In Kail, the surrounding communities will also benefit, as we are voluntarily paying 0.2 cents per kilowatt hour produced. In addition to the lease payments for the land, the local communities can expect additional income of up to €60,000 per year.”
