From 2027 to 2034, Statkraft will directly provide Deutsche Bahn with green hydropower from its Langwedel and Landesbergen plants in Lower Saxony, Germany. This 8-year agreement involves supplying over 350,000 MWh of green electricity. Additionally, wind power from various wind farms, covered by power purchase agreements, will complement the supply. These PPAs, spanning 2024 to 2026, are expected to generate around 147,000 MWh, ensuring efficient operation of wind turbines across Lower Saxony, Hesse, and Brandenburg.
Patrick Koch, Head of Origination Germany at Statkraft, commented, “These agreements shows our commitment to driving the energy transition and offering our customers flexible, customised energy solutions – be it with green electricity from various energy sources or contracts with individual structures and terms. We are proud to be working with Deutsche Bahn and look forward to expanding our successful business relationship.”
In the last few years, Statkraft has finalized multiple PPAs with Deutsche Bahn. Since last year, they’ve been supplying 1.9 terawatt hours of green hydropower for a decade through a cross-border PPA. In 2021, Statkraft supplied one year of onshore wind power from 70 turbines to Deutsche Bahn. These green power agreements aid Deutsche Bahn in achieving climate neutrality by 2040 and reducing CO2 emissions by 2030, all while ensuring price stability despite market fluctuations.
