CIP officially celebrated the completion of the Changfang-Xidao offshore wind project at Taipei. With a combined capacity of nearly 600 MW, these two offshore wind farms boost Taiwan’s total offshore capacity by approximately 25%, playing a crucial role in the nation’s energy transition and net-zero goals.

Changfang-Xidao is known for one of the highest levels of localization in Taiwan’s offshore wind industry, utilizing a significant number of local suppliers and vendors. Located 11 km off Taiwan’s west coast, the wind farms feature 62 Vestas V174 turbines and jacket foundations provided by Taiwan’s Century Wind Power. Once fully operational, Changfang-Xidao will generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 650,000 households, with an annual expected CO2 reduction of 1.1 million tons.

Changfang-Xidao is CIP’s inaugural venture into offshore wind farms in the Asia Pacific region, which has emerged as a key market for such projects. With a substantial portfolio of 21 GW offshore wind projects in the Asia Pacific, CIP is a leading force in advancing offshore wind development in Korea, Australia, and Taiwan.

The majority ownership of Changfang-Xidao lies with CIP’s Flagship funds CI II and CI III, while Thailand-based Global Power Synergy Public Company (GPSC) and two Taiwanese life insurance companies, Taiwan Life and Transglobe Life, hold minority stakes.

Christina Grumstrup Sørensen, Senior Partner at CIP, said, “The inauguration of Changfang-Xidao is a landmark for CIP as well as for the offshore wind industry in Taiwan. In the past seven years, the development and construction team, suppliers, partners and shareholders have demonstrated the power of close collaboration. Together we have successfully constructed a project that makes a meaningful contribution to Taiwan’s energy transition and that plays a significant role in the establishment of the local offshore wind industry – and will support Taiwan’s long-term offshore wind ambitions.”

Mads Skovgaard Andersen, Partner at CIP, added,  “I would like to thank and congratulate the construction team and our supply chain partners on reaching this important milestone. Your stamina, dedication, and problem-solving skills have been instrumental for the success of Changfang-Xidao and have enabled the construction of a project that stands out as a testimony to the professionalism of the offshore supply chain here in Taiwan.”
