RWE, a global leader in offshore wind energy, has awarded two significant contracts to Lamprell Energy Limited for the supply of transition pieces for its Norfolk Vanguard West and Norfolk Vanguard East offshore wind projects in the UK. This move highlights RWE’s commitment to advancing these projects, which will have a combined installed capacity of 2.8 gigawatts (GW) once completed.
The contract signing was celebrated at the WindEnergy Hamburg 2024 conference, where RWE and Lamprell formalized their collaboration. The contracts involve the manufacture and supply of 92 transition pieces for both wind farms, with transportation to be organized to RWE’s designated marshalling port.
Lamprell will produce the transition pieces using its advanced serial production line, which was commissioned in 2023. The facility successfully completed its first project in 2024, delivering over 60 similar structures for a Scottish wind farm.
Norfolk Vanguard West and East are part of the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone, alongside the Norfolk Boreas project. RWE acquired all three projects in March 2024 and is rapidly advancing their development as part of its commitment to expanding green energy in the UK. Together, these projects could generate enough clean energy to power approximately 4 million homes in the UK. They will also play a crucial role in helping the UK achieve its goal of quadrupling offshore wind capacity by 2030, delivering a net-zero power system, and ensuring a reliable source of clean, domestic energy for the future.
Dr Holger Himmel, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), RWE Offshore Wind, said, “We are pleased to have secured this key contract for Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone with Lamprell as our preferred supplier for the transition pieces. We are looking forward to a fruitful and productive relationship with Lamprell and we continue to work closely with our delivery partners to progress the development of these important projects towards offshore construction and operation.”
Ian Prescott, CEO of Lamprell, added, “We are honoured to be partnering with RWE on the Norfolk Vanguard projects. This contract award highlights Lamprell’s commitment to delivering high-quality wind turbine foundation structures that support the global transition towards renewable energy. We are grateful to RWE for their trust and look forward to a long and successful partnership as we work together to contribute to the UK’s renewable energy ambitions.”
