Suzlon Group Secures 400 MW Wind Energy Order to Drive Decarbonization in Steel Sector

Suzlon Group has announced a landmark 400 MW order from JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a special purpose vehicle of Jindal Renewables Power Private Limited, aimed at harnessing wind energy to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors. This order represents the largest commercial and industrial (C&I) win in the industry, reinforcing Suzlon’s leadership in the market and advancing India’s clean energy transition. With this latest achievement, Suzlon’s cumulative order book has reached nearly 5.4 GW.

The project involves the supply of 127 advanced wind turbine generators (WTGs) equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, to be installed in the Koppal region of Karnataka. The power generated will be utilized for captive consumption in steel plants located in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, enhancing their operational sustainability and contributing to India’s green energy objectives.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed pride in partnering with the Jindal Group, stating, “This bold step towards a low-carbon future leverages wind power to revolutionize steel production. This collaboration not only redefines industrial sustainability but also aligns with India’s 2070 net-zero vision. Together, we are setting a new benchmark for sustainable practices that foster growth while safeguarding the planet.”

Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, emphasized the group’s commitment to cleaner energy solutions, stating, “We are taking breakthrough steps to integrate green energy into steelmaking, reducing our overall carbon footprint and ensuring long-term sustainability. This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in sustainable steel production, enabling us to achieve our Group’s net-zero commitment by 2047.”

JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon Group, highlighted the importance of decarbonizing the steel sector, saying, “This collaboration is a testament to ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. I am confident that this partnership will inspire other industry players to reassess their operations as we collectively work toward a more sustainable future.”
