Iberdrola has unveiled a global challenge under its Perseo startup programme to develop advanced wind measurement solutions. Participants are invited to propose systems that integrate both traditional and cutting-edge sensors for measuring wind speed and direction. These solutions must be deployable across multiple wind farm locations, conducting comprehensive measurement campaigns on several turbines with high reliability, accuracy, and ease of installation.

As the operator of 400 wind farms with over 15,000 turbines, Iberdrola aims to enhance its understanding of wind variability and its impact on turbine performance. The winner will gain the opportunity to implement their solution at one of Iberdrola’s operational wind farms, with potential for scaling through commercial agreements and possible investment by Iberdrola. Submissions close on December 1.

Globally, Iberdrola leads in wind power, boasting 23,000 MW of installed capacity, including 21,000 MW onshore, which generated 33,000 GWh in the first nine months of 2024—over half of its total renewable production. Offshore wind capacity, a key growth area, has risen 47.5% year-over-year to nearly 2,400 MW, fueled by projects in France and Germany.

Iberdrola plans to invest €15.5 billion in renewables through 2026, allocating half to offshore projects in the U.S., U.K., France, and Germany. With 4,800 MW of offshore capacity expected by 2026, Iberdrola continues to drive the global transition to clean energy.
