The Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects at POWERGRID held a meeting on February 3, 2025, and approved two significant investment projects aimed at enhancing India’s transmission infrastructure.
The first project involves the creation of a 400kV switchyard at Vataman, including the installation of two 1500MVA, 765/400kV Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs). This switchyard will be associated with the Transmission System for Offshore Wind Zone Phase-1, which is expected to support 500 MW of offshore wind capacity off the coast of Gujarat, particularly in Subzone B3. The estimated cost of this project is ₹319.42 crore, with an expected commissioning date of February 19, 2026.
The second project focuses on providing additional transmission capacity to ensure a redundant power supply to the Dholera area. This project will also align with the first one, involving the creation of a 400kV switchyard and the installation of two 1500MVA ICTs at Vataman. The estimated cost for this project is ₹109.74 crore, with a scheduled completion date of March 1, 2026.
These initiatives reflect POWERGRID’s ongoing commitment to strengthening India’s power infrastructure, especially to support renewable energy growth and ensure a stable power supply in key regions.
