ScottishPower Renewables, the Iberdrola Group’s renewable energy arm in Scotland, has completed the repowering of its Hagshaw Hill wind farm — the site that launched Scotland’s wind power revolution in 1995. Thirty years on, the upgraded facility now generates five times more clean electricity with fewer turbines.

The project replaced 26 original turbines with 14 new high-efficiency models, increasing capacity to over 79 MW — enough to power 57,000 homes. Repowering offers one of the fastest and most effective routes to meeting Scotland’s 2030 onshore wind goals while minimizing land use.

In a pioneering circular approach, all original turbine blades will be recycled by Plaswire into new construction materials, showcasing how renewable energy can drive sustainability from generation to end-of-life reuse.
