RWE is set to advance construction at its Thor Offshore Wind Farm in Denmark with onshore cable works scheduled from mid-April to late October. These works will focus on the onshore substation area south of Lemvig, where construction commenced in May 2023 and is progressing as per schedule.

The initial phase of cable works, spanning mid-April to the end of June, will include horizontal directional drilling under the dune and a nearby field south of Tuskær. These drilling operations, occurring at depths exceeding 20 meters to protect the dunes, will facilitate the approximately 4-kilometer cable route between the onshore substation at Volder Mark and the beach.

Landfall works are underway to prepare for cable pull-in next year, involving the installation of two ducts under the dunes and adjacent fields. Each drill hole spans approximately 425 meters, with ducts measuring 71 centimeters in diameter. These duct sections will be welded together on the beach before being pulled through the drill holes.

East of Torsmindevej, onshore cables will be divided into three phases, laid, buried, and connected to the onshore substation from June to July. Subsequent jointing and testing works are scheduled from July to October.

The subsea cables, to be connected to the onshore cables in 2025, will supply the substation from the offshore substation. Situated approximately 22 kilometers off Thorsminde in the Danish North Sea, Thor Offshore Wind Farm, with a planned capacity exceeding 1,000 megawatts, will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm upon completion. Scheduled for full operation by the end of 2027, Thor is projected to generate enough green electricity to power over one million Danish households.

To ensure safety during construction, a small section of the southern beach will be cordoned off.
