In a significant development for Australia’s renewable energy landscape, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has successfully obtained the nation’s inaugural offshore wind Feasibility Licences. The licenses grant exclusivity to CIP’s Flagship Funds for the development of offshore wind projects across two expansive areas, spanning 586km² and 689km² respectively. With the potential to generate up to 4.4 GW of power, equivalent to supplying 2.4 million homes, these projects mark a substantial leap towards sustainable energy solutions.

Aligned with this milestone, CIP has inaugurated Southerly Ten, a specialized platform aimed at facilitating the development and execution of offshore wind ventures in Australia. Since its entry into the Australian market in 2017, CIP has been pivotal in spearheading the offshore wind sector’s growth, underscoring its dedication to fostering energy, climate, and economic benefits locally.

Jørn Hammer, Partner and Head of CIP Australia, expressed enthusiasm regarding the establishment of Southerly Ten, emphasizing its role in leveraging CIP’s global proficiency in offshore wind development. Southerly Ten is poised to oversee the progression of CIP’s Australian offshore wind portfolio, which encompasses flagship projects such as Star of the South and Kut-Wut Brataualung. Leading this initiative is Charles Rattray, a seasoned executive with over two decades of experience in energy and finance, who assumes the mantle of Southerly Ten’s leadership.

CIP’s Flagship Funds are poised to inject capital into project development and the expansion of Southerly Ten, with future considerations earmarked for project construction pending investment decisions.

This strategic move underscores CIP’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions and driving Australia towards a greener, more resilient future.
