RWE has secured tenders for two onshore wind projects in the latest Federal Network Agency auction. The company will build its first wind farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and expand an existing wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Together, the seven turbines will have a combined capacity of approximately 40 megawatts, generating enough green electricity to power around 28,500 households. Both projects are slated for commissioning in the summer of 2026.

In northeastern Germany, RWE will add 22.8 megawatts to its wind portfolio with four turbines at Papenhagen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Meanwhile, in NRW’s Rhenish lignite mining region, the company will expand the Bergheim Wiedenfelder Höhe wind farm with three turbines delivering 17.1 megawatts on recultivated mining land. Construction on both projects is set to begin by mid-2025. Katja Wünschel, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia: “The energy transition in Germany is making progress and we are continuing to pick up speed. I am therefore delighted that we will be expanding our wind fleet in the north and west of the country. The local people will also benefit from this, as we voluntarily pay 0.2 cents per kilowatt hour produced to the surrounding communities. In total, the municipalities in the vicinity of the two projects can expect additional income of up to 190,000 euros per year.”
