The Zarafshan Wind Power Project in Uzbekistan, constructed by POWERCHINA,  achieved a 500 megawatts grid connection. This marks the operation of the largest single-unit wind power project in both Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

The project is Uzbekistan’s first large-scale wind energy initiative, with a total installed capacity of 521.7 MW. Since the project’s commencement, POWERCHINA has ensured efficient coordination across design, equipment procurement, transportation, and construction, thereby achieving early and increased power generation and maximizing returns.

To date, 106 turbines with a combined capacity of 500 MW have been connected to the grid, fulfilling the commitment to the Uzbek Government to deliver 500 MW by the end of the year.

Various stakeholders highly praised the project. Once completed, it will provide sufficient electricity for 500,000 households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.1 million metric tons annually, contributing significantly to Uzbekistan’s energy transition and sustainable economic development goals.
