Clearway Energy Group and Clearway Energy, Inc. have announced the completion of their acquisition of the Tuolumne Wind Project, a 137-megawatt (MW) wind farm located in Klickitat County, Washington. The project, which has a strong operating history, is capable of powering over 44,000 homes annually with clean, renewable energy.
The acquisition marks Clearway’s continued investment in Washington state’s renewable energy sector. The Tuolumne Wind Project is located along the Columbia River, an area widely regarded as one of the most productive wind resource zones in the western United States.
“We are thrilled to expand our investment in Washington state and provide reliable, low-cost power to homes and businesses on the West Coast,” said John Woody, Senior Vice President of Development at Clearway. “We look forward to our long-term partnership with the Turlock Irrigation District through this project.”
Under an amended agreement, the project will sell power to the Turlock Irrigation District with a 15-year initial contract term. There is also potential for repowering the wind farm in the future, which could extend its operational life by upgrading key turbine components.
The acquisition represents a $60 million investment in Washington. It also brings economic benefits to the local community, with Clearway contributing approximately $1.3 million annually in sales and property taxes to Klickitat County. These funds will support vital public services such as schools and hospitals.
Clearway’s portfolio in Washington also includes the 160 MW Rattlesnake Flat wind farm in Adams County, reinforcing its growing footprint in the Pacific Northwest’s clean energy market.
