The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) has released a report outlining strategic measures to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as India’s leading wind energy hub, with recommendations focused on policy reforms, manufacturing expansion, infrastructure development and export growth.
Titled “Action Items for Energy Transition in Tamil Nadu,” the report was commissioned by IWTMA and served as the basis for discussions at the Tamil Nadu Wind India Leadership Summit 2026, where senior government officials, policymakers and industry leaders deliberated on measures to accelerate the state’s renewable energy transition.
The summit brought together senior government officials, policymakers and industry leaders for focused roundtable discussions on Tamil Nadu’s role in India’s energy transition. Led by Shri P. N. Sridhar, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL), Dr. S. Vijayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Department and other senior stakeholders, the deliberations focused on strengthening collaboration between government and industry to accelerate investments, enhance manufacturing competitiveness and unlock the state’s next phase of wind energy growth.
The report recommends a range of policy interventions, including capital expenditure (CapEx) subsidies, measures to accelerate wind repowering, development of manufacturing clusters around Ennore and VOC Port, expansion of the Green Energy Corridor, offshore wind development and improvements in grid readiness.
It also highlights the importance of strengthening Tamil Nadu’s wind equipment export ecosystem. According to the report, the state currently exports wind turbines and components worth more than ₹1,000 crore annually, supporting thousands of direct and indirect jobs. The proposed measures aim to further position Tamil Nadu as a global manufacturing and export hub for wind energy equipment.
Industry representatives said the recommendations are intended to support policy dialogue on improving the investment environment, expanding manufacturing capacity, strengthening infrastructure and enabling faster project execution.
The report envisions Tamil Nadu enhancing its renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem, making wind repowering commercially viable, expanding transmission infrastructure ahead of demand and establishing itself as India’s leading offshore wind manufacturing and export hub to support long-term industrial growth, energy security and economic competitiveness.
