Metacon has secured a contract to deliver a 1 MW pressurized alkaline electrolysis plant to a leading renewable energy company in Morocco, one of Africa’s largest wind power investors with approximately 2,000 MW of renewable assets. The electrolysis system will be supplied as a turnkey, containerized solution and installed on the customer’s site. The total contract value is EUR 1,820,600.
This pilot project aims to refine the technology of directly coupling pressurized alkaline electrolyzers with wind turbines. It serves as an important step toward scaling up future industrial production facilities for green hydrogen, e-fuels, and green ammonia in Morocco.
The green hydrogen market in North Africa is rapidly emerging and expected to experience significant growth, driven by expanding renewable electricity capacity. The customer has announced a strategy to become a leading green hydrogen producer in Morocco and the wider region. This pilot plant, designed to produce hydrogen off-grid by connecting to multiple wind turbines, marks the first major step in realizing that vision.
“I am very happy to announce that Metacon has won this contract with the regional energy leader in Morocco. This is hopefully the beginning of a long-term relation for realizing their ambitions for large-scale production of green hydrogen, e-fuels and green ammonia in Morocco and beyond”, commented Christer Wikner, President & CEO, Metacon.
