The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and Elemental Energy have finalized a $97 million loan to support the construction of the Wedgeport Wind project in the Municipal District of Argyle, Nova Scotia.

The project will feature 12 Nordex wind turbines, each with a capacity of seven megawatts, for a total of 84 megawatts of clean, renewable energy. This new capacity will connect to Nova Scotia’s power grid, supplying electricity to over 30,000 homes and businesses with affordable and reliable energy.

Construction has already begun, with operations expected to start by late 2026. At peak construction, the project will create up to 85 jobs, with additional full-time roles planned for ongoing operations and maintenance.

Wedgeport Wind is a partnership between Elemental Energy, Stevens Wind, and the Sipekne’katik First Nation (SFN). The Mi’kma’ki Municipal Limited Partnership (MMLP), which represents all 13 Mi’kmaq communities in Nova Scotia through economic development organizations, has been contracted to build the project. This collaboration aims to boost Mi’kmaq workforce participation, local development, and training.

The project aligns with Nova Scotia’s goal of adopting innovative, low-cost energy solutions and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 100,000 tonnes annually.

This marks the second time the CIB has partnered with Elemental Energy, SFN, and Stevens Wind through Nova Scotia’s Rate Based Procurement process. The loan from the CIB helps speed up the project while lowering costs for Nova Scotia residents.

The financing is part of the CIB’s $10 billion Clean Power priority sector, which supports new clean energy projects, including renewables, district energy, and energy storage.
