Nordex has welcomed the filing of Quebec’s Integrated Energy Resource Management Plan (IERMP), describing it as a major step toward long-term energy planning that will support renewable energy development and strengthen the province’s wind energy industry.
The company said the plan provides a clear roadmap for Quebec’s future energy needs, positioning renewable energy at the center of the province’s energy transition while creating greater certainty for investment, workforce development and supply chain expansion.
According to Nordex, the long-term policy framework will enable the wind energy sector to plan manufacturing capacity, develop skilled labor and strengthen Quebec’s expertise in renewable energy technologies.
“Quebec has all the assets required to strengthen its position as a North American leader in wind energy. The Integrated Energy Resource Management Plan (IERMP) now establishes a long-term vision that will help achieve this objective while enabling the entire wind energy ecosystem to prepare and invest sustainably,” said Sabrina Harbec, Head of Corporate Relationships – North America at Nordex.
Nordex noted that Quebec has played a key role in the development of Canada’s wind energy industry and remains central to the company’s Canadian operations. Nearly 60% of Nordex’s Canadian portfolio is located in Quebec, representing more than 1.2 GW of wind energy projects, while the company’s Canadian headquarters is based in Montreal.
The company emphasized that long-term visibility into future energy demand is critical for project developers, manufacturers, suppliers and transmission operators to coordinate investments, secure equipment and ensure timely project execution.
“The IERMP sends a positive signal to the entire sector. Predictable planning not only helps meet Quebec’s growing energy needs but also strengthens a robust supply chain capable of supporting this growth,” Harbec added.
Nordex reaffirmed its commitment to working with Hydro-Québec, the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE) and other government agencies, industry stakeholders and local communities to support the expansion of Quebec’s wind energy sector and contribute to the province’s long-term energy transition goals.
