Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy S.A. has secured a new order from Ayana Renewable Power Six Private Limited to supply turbines for a wind energy project in India.

The renewable energy company will supply a total of 84 units of SG 3.6-145 wind turbines for the installation of the 302 MW project in Karnataka’s Gadag district.

Ayana was awarded this wind energy project in the recently announced SECI ISTS Tranche X tender and will develop the infrastructure for the farm. In 2019, Ayana partnered with Siemens Gamesa for development of a 300 MW solar farm in Rajasthan. Currently, the company has a total of 3 GW of renewable energy capacity under developing as well as operating stages, across India.

Last year Siemens Gamesa launched its SG 3.6-145 turbine amidst an ongoing pandemic. This new wind turbine is an extension of the SG 3.4-145 which originally is based on the SG 3.4-132. The latest variant is optimized to deliver the lowest Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE), having the balance of performance, efficiency in the turbine design, and minimization of Balance of Plant (BoP) costs.

According to Siemens Gamesa, “The turbine achieves a nominal power output of 3.6 MW thanks to the optimized control system and an improved management of loads under specific site conditions. With an increased rotor swept area of 41%, which delivers 48% more AEP than the previous SG 2.2-122, it is one of the most efficient and cost-effective solutions in the market.”

Siemens Gamesa announced its first orders in India in July 2021 for two wind energy projects with 301 MW and 322 MW capacity. This additional 302 MW project raised the total order intake for the Siemens Gamesa 3.X platform in India to 925 MW. The turbines will be manufactured in Indian plants, where the wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2023.

Navin Dewaji, CEO of India Siemens Gamesa, said, “We are happy to announce this new deal with Ayana Renewable Power, one of the fastest growing renewable Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in India. This order significantly helps us as we gear up for the next growth phase for Siemens Gamesa in India. With the SG 3.6-145, a turbine made for India, we are confident we are delivering better value for our customers.”
