EDF power solutions has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for electricity generated by Phase 1 of the Diana Wind Farm, a 142.5 MW project located in Jacobina, northern Bahia, Brazil.
The first phase of the wind farm comprises 23 wind turbines and is scheduled to commence commercial operations in 2027. The PPA has been signed with Salobo Metais and Mineração Onça Puma, companies under Vale Base Metals, the nickel and copper-focused subsidiary of Vale S/A.
The agreement will supply electricity under an energy self-production model, supporting Vale Base Metals’ decarbonisation strategy while providing greater cost visibility, supply stability and operational security. Any surplus electricity generated by the project may be sold into the energy market.
Diana Wind Farm to Support Regional Development
The Diana Wind Farm is also expected to contribute to economic development in the region. EDF power solutions estimates that the project will create approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs across its construction and operational phases.
The company said it will prioritise local employment and implement training and professional integration programmes to strengthen workforce development and the regional supply chain. Industrial partnerships with factories in the region are also expected to support local economic activity during project implementation.

He added that the project represents an opportunity to strengthen the wind energy industrial chain and contribute to the economy of Bahia.
