The Nuolivaara new wind farm will be a major milestone in Finland’s long term sustainable energy program. It is expected to go online by 2022. The route-to-power purchase arrangement (PPA), was the foundation for the development and operation of the wind farm in Nuolivaara, Finland. This is the first such project north of the Arctic circle.
This project is part of a partnership between World Kinect Energy Services (WKES) and wpd Europe (wpd), a renewable energy developer/operator.
This is the second PPA between them and it follows the construction of the 188 MW Karhunnevankangas Wind Farm in the Osterbotten area of western Finland last summer. The new wind farm is located 25km northeast from Kemijarvi in Finland. It will have a total power generation capacity of 96.9MW. This demonstrates Finland’s commitment to renewable energy solutions.
The project’s completion will be accompanied by the activation of a broader partnership between both parties. This will see WKES route wind farm output and nominate baseload volumes for the wind farm off-takers. WKES will manage residual power according to pre-defined strategies towards the Nordic electricity market traded market while also serving as the Balancing Responsible Party for wind farms. WKES will provide all BRP services related production, consumption, and bilateral trade. They will also be responsible for REMIT reporting.
Ben Bisenius is Head of PPA Origination for wpd. He said that the Nuolivaara Wind Farm Project is our sixth project in Finland. It strengthens our commitment towards growing renewable energy within Finland’s energy market.
“Having World Kinect Energy Services aboard, using its knowledge and expertise of local markets to negotiate Route-to-Market PPA has strengthened the Nuolivaara Project, which is scheduled for completion in July.”
Stuart Donnelly is the Senior Director for Global Renewable Energy Solutions at World Kinect Energy Services. He stated: “We are thrilled to continue to support wpd europe when it further expands its Finnish wind farm projects and helps lead the sustainable energy transition to Northern Europe.”
He added that sustainability is a top priority for them and that with our local experience and knowledge of the local markets, we can deliver value to wpd as well as other renewable energy developers and customers looking into renewable energy.
WKES is a leader in energy management, energy supply, and sustainability. WKES has been instrumental in the development and promotion of numerous onsite and utility-scale solar and wind projects.
Nordex manufactured the 17 Delta4000-series N163/5.7 wind turbines for the new wind farm. They are designed to produce 5.7 MW and are made by Nordex.
