ACCIONA Energia announced the construction of two new wind farms in Croatia, Opor (27MW), and Boraja II (45MW). These farms are linked to a 12-year Contract for Difference (CfD), with Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije(HROTE). This CfD was awarded through a tender. It is part of a scheme that was drawn up by HROTE and the Croatian government to increase the production of renewable electricity, and contribute to European decarbonization goals.
Nearly EUR100 million will be invested in the Opor and Boraja II project. The 16 Nordex turbines will be combined to produce 203 gigawatts an hour (GWh) of energy. This is enough to power nearly 60,000 homes. These two wind farms, once operational in 2024 will reduce CO2 emissions to 135,000 tonnes per year. They also fall under ACCIONA Energia’s Social Impact Management program. This program re-invests a portion of the project’s annual revenues to support education, wellbeing, and environmental stewardship in the communities it serves.
Opor and Boraja II are being built in Split-Dalmacia, and Sibenik-Knin and will join the 30MW Jelinak complex of wind farms that ACCIONA Energia operates since 2013, also in Split-Dalmatia. These projects will contribute to the expansion of ACCIONA Energia’s portfolio and geographic diversification. The company continues to grow and plans to double its size by 2025, reaching a total installed renewable energy capacity 20GW.
