Suzlon Group, India’s biggest renewable energy solutions supplier, today announced an order for its 3 MW product from First Energy 5 Private Limited (First Energy), a Thermax Group entity, for the development of a 39 MW wind power project. Suzlon will deploy 13 wind turbine generators (WTGs) with 3 MW rated capacity and a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower. The project, which would be located in Thalai Attupuram, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, is projected to be completed in 2024.

This order is part of FirstEnergy 5 Private Limited’s 100 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid project.

Suzlon will deliver the wind turbines (equipment supply) and monitor the project, including construction and commissioning, as part of the deal. Suzlon will also provide extensive post-commissioning operations and maintenance services.

“We are delighted to announce our order with First Energy 5 Private Limited, part of the highly respected Thermax Group. This is our first order with the group and features our 3 MW series product, which is one of the largest wind turbines in India today. We believe this series will play a crucial role in fulfilling India’s renewable energy goals. FirstEnergy is dedicated to providing green energy to MSMEs and medium to high power consuming industries in the country, which aligns with our vision of a sustainable India. We thank them for their trust in Suzlon’s technology and services and look forward to building a strong and self-reliant India together,” JP Chalasani, CEO, Suzlon Group, stated.

We are focussed on increasing our green energy footprint in India and look forward to creating many landmark projects in the future that will help us power our customers’ growth and electricity requirements with clean energy.” Mr. Ravi Damaraju, Director, First Energy 5 Private Limited stated.

The Suzlon 3 MW Series

The Suzlon Group, India’s leading producer of renewable energy solutions, is pleased to introduce its 3 MW line of wind turbines. This series marks an important milestone for the corporation and the country’s wind energy sector, with the primary goal of boosting generation, lowering energy costs, and contributing to an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Suzlon’s 3 MW turbines have a 144-metre rotor diameter and are designed to unlock low wind areas while providing enhanced energy output in all Indian wind regimes. With up to 85-90% local material by serial debut, this series demonstrates Suzlon’s dedication to innovation and self-reliance.

The S144 wind turbine generator is one of the largest in India, with a capacity of up to 3.15 MW depending on site wind conditions and a hub height of 140 metres that will be increased to 160 metres by serial launch. The S144 will also be India’s highest wind turbine, with a hub height of 160 metres. Suzlon’s S144 fleet will produce 40-43% more energy than the company’s existing model, the S120 – 2.1 MW wind turbine, demonstrating the company’s capacity to optimise wind resources at higher elevations and make low-wind areas profitable.

Furthermore, the 3 MW turbine generators use the time-tested Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology and Suzlon’s SB 70.5 carbon fibre blade. This cutting-edge technology enables the use of smaller aerodynamic profiles, resulting in outstanding performance in low-wind locations and a large improvement in generating output per unit of land.
