Renowned as a top developer and operator of wind farms in Europe, wpd is back to WindEurope in Bilbao in 2024, eager to engage in discussions with familiar and new business contacts. The team intends to share numerous project successes from the European market.
In 2023, wpd completed four onshore projects and commenced construction on five more wind farms in France. With a total installed capacity of 571.4 MW, wpd France has ongoing development projects totaling 1.5 GW. The year 2024 began on a high note with the signing of one of France’s largest power purchase agreements (PPA) with Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure services.
The wpd Italia team has exciting updates: construction has commenced on the 30 MW Licata project in Sicily, while approval has been granted for the “Parco Eolico Montaratro” wind farm in Apulia’s Troia and Lucera municipalities. With the building permit secured in late 2023, the team can now proceed with the next steps for this 81.2 MW project located in the province of Foggia.
In Spain, wpd is advancing the expansion of the 177 MW Torozos wind farm cluster situated in the windy Castilla y León region. Comprising the El Poleo, Las Panaderas, Navillas, and Corralnuevo projects, currently equipped with 51 turbines, the cluster will soon incorporate three additional Vestas turbines, with construction slated for the upcoming summer. Furthermore, wpd España plans to initiate the integration of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems into the Torozos cluster, commencing with an initial phase of approximately 60 MW of solar modules.
In Croatia, wpd Adria has secured approval for the 30 MW Katuni PV project, complementing the existing Katuni wind farm operational since 2017, boasting an installed capacity of 34.2 MW. Pending the acquisition of the final building permit, construction of the solar park is scheduled to commence this year. Additionally, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, wpd has obtained environmental permits and preliminary grid connection conditions for the Čadilj, Marino Brdo, and Ruđer Bošković wind farms, collectively offering a total installed capacity of 330 MW. Once all necessary licenses are acquired, construction for all projects is expected to commence in 2025.
“We have exciting projects under construction in many European countries,” says Dr. Hartmut Brösamle, Managing Director of wpd GmbH. “This applies from Northern Europe to Poland and the German domestic market to Greece and the
other European wpd markets. We are broadly positioned and ideally equipped for the future.”
