Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) has successfully concluded its recent auction for wind power projects, awarding a total capacity of 200 MW to three companies: Jakson Green, Juniper Green Energy, and RIH Renewables (EDF Renewables). This auction is part of a significant long-term initiative aimed at developing Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected wind power projects across Gujarat.

Originally, GUVNL floated a tender in July for a much larger capacity of 500 MW. However, the company later decided to reduce this to 200 MW, reflecting the evolving dynamics of the bidding process. In total, three companies submitted competitive bids during the auction, offering tariffs ranging from ₹3.56 to ₹3.63 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

In this competitive bidding environment, Juniper Green Energy and Jakson Green emerged as winners, each securing a capacity of 50 MW. They submitted tariffs of ₹3.56/kWh and ₹3.63/kWh, respectively. Meanwhile, RIH Renewables (EDF Renewables) was awarded 40 MW at a tariff of ₹3.59/kWh.

This procurement effort by GUVNL is a strategic move to enhance its renewable energy portfolio and meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) mandated by the government. It also addresses the future energy requirements of Distribution Companies (Discoms) in Gujarat. By increasing its reliance on sustainable energy sources, GUVNL aims to support the state’s growing energy demands while contributing to the overall goal of expanding renewable energy in the region.

The success of this auction reflects the ongoing commitment of GUVNL to foster a sustainable energy landscape in Gujarat, emphasizing the importance of wind energy in the state’s energy mix. With these developments, GUVNL is poised to make significant strides in renewable energy, aligning with broader national goals for sustainability and climate change mitigation.
