Suomen Voima has entered a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft, set to commence in January 2025. The agreement covers an annual estimated volume of 100 GWh, sourced from the Nedre Bjurfors hydropower plant and the Björkhöjden wind farm, both owned and operated by Statkraft. Located in Sweden’s bidding area SE2, this marks Suomen Voima’s first energy deal in Sweden, enhancing its energy portfolio with a diverse mix of technologies and expanded geographic reach.

The Nedre Bjurfors hydropower plant, operational since 1959, has a capacity of 78 MW and generates approximately 400 GWh annually. Suomen Voima’s share accounts for 50 GWh, half of the contracted volume. The remaining 50 GWh will be supplied by the Björkhöjden wind farm, which began operations in 2015. This wind farm comprises 90 Siemens turbines with a total installed capacity of 288 MW and an annual production of 700 GWh. “We are pleased to have concluded this PPA hedging contract with Suomen Voima and are looking forward to 15 years of cooperation”, said Ketil Hovland, Senior Originator of Statkraft AS.
