Global renewable energy company Zelestra has been awarded a Firm & Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) contract by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), a Navratna public sector enterprise in India. The contract enables Zelestra to develop a 500 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Solapur, Maharashtra, integrating wind, solar, and battery storage to provide round-the-clock clean energy.

A key highlight of this project is its 180 MW wind energy component, which will play a crucial role in ensuring reliable power supply, particularly during peak demand hours in the morning and evening. The hybrid facility will also include 250 MWdc of solar energy and a 90 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), enhancing grid stability and supporting India’s clean energy transition.

Expected to be operational by 2027, the project will generate over 815 GWh of electricity annually, supplying power to approximately 225,000 households while offsetting 0.7 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

Zelestra’s Chief Executive Officer for India, Sajay K.V., emphasized the significance of wind energy in this large-scale project, stating, “This transformational hybrid project will ensure clean energy supply at all hours, including peak periods when homes and businesses need reliable electricity the most. By integrating wind, solar, and battery storage, we are moving beyond traditional renewables to deliver firm and dispatchable green power solutions.”

With this latest contract, Zelestra now has a 5.4 GW pipeline of clean energy projects across seven states in India, solidifying its position in the country’s renewable energy sector.

Zelestra was recently ranked among the top 10 global sellers of clean energy to corporate customers by BloombergNEF (BNEF) and number two in the Europe, Middle East, and Asia region. This latest win further reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding wind energy capacity and supporting India’s decarbonization efforts as the nation accelerates its transition towards a sustainable energy future.
