Enlight Renewable Energy, a leading global renewable energy platform, today announced it has signed financing agreements totaling approximately $310 million to develop the Gecama Hybrid Project in Spain. This transformative project will integrate a large-scale solar array and battery energy storage system with Enlight’s existing 329 MW Gecama wind farm—already the largest in the country.
Once completed, the hybrid complex will have a total capacity of 554 MW of clean energy and 220 MWh of storage, making it the largest integrated renewable energy facility of its kind in Spain.
A New Benchmark for Renewable Integration
The Gecama Hybrid Project is designed to deliver reliable, around-the-clock clean electricity at a competitive cost. By combining technologies with complementary generation profiles and a utility-scale battery system, the facility will maximize output and efficiency. The battery will enable time-shifting—storing power during low-price periods and discharging during peak demand—and will also provide critical grid services such as frequency regulation.
This innovation is especially timely as Spain looks to strengthen its energy resilience, following widespread blackouts in April 2025. The project aligns with Spain’s national climate and energy strategy and is expected to play a key role in advancing energy storage infrastructure.
