A topping-out ceremony was held for a new office building in Germany’s East Friesland region that will house a state-of-the-art offshore wind control center. Located in the municipality of Jemgum, district of Leer, the center will monitor and control RWE’s existing and upcoming offshore wind farms across Germany and continental Europe around the clock. Real Immobilien GmbH is constructing the building, which RWE will occupy under a long-term lease.

Scheduled for completion by autumn, the building will be equipped with advanced technical systems, with the control center expected to become operational by spring 2026. Initially, about 50 RWE employees will work there, with plans to recruit additional regional experts to expand the operational team.

The two-story, 1,120-square-meter facility will feature a modern control room, office spaces, meeting rooms, and amenities including break areas with kitchens, a gym, green spaces, and a conservatory for employee relaxation. The site will also include 50 parking spots, electric vehicle charging stations, and bicycle racks.

Designed as a flagship sustainable construction project, the building will use recycled materials, energy-optimized construction techniques, and renewable energy for electricity and heating. Water-saving measures will also be implemented. RWE aims to obtain the “Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings” certification from the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building.

The new center will serve as the operational hub for RWE’s Nordseecluster offshore wind project, a 1.6-gigawatt development north of the island of Juist. This joint venture between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%) is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 1.6 million households. RWE leads the construction and operation of Nordseecluster, with the Jemgum building acting as the project office.
