Ecopetrol S.A. has successfully completed the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Wind Autogeneración S.A.S. from Enel S.A.S. The transaction was approved by Ecopetrol’s Board of Directors in December 2024, and has now closed following the completion of all conditions precedent, including required regulatory and antitrust approvals.
The acquired asset includes the Windpeshi wind project, located in La Guajira between the municipalities of Uribia and Maicao. With an installed capacity of 205 MW, Windpeshi will be incorporated into the Ecopetrol Group’s self-consumption energy portfolio. Once operational, it is expected to generate an average of 1,006 GWh annually—equivalent to approximately 8–9% of the Group’s total energy demand.
Windpeshi is a strategic component of Ecopetrol’s commitment to Colombia’s energy transition. The project is projected to deliver approximately 4.8 million tons of CO₂ emissions reductions and is supported by estimated investments of nearly USD 350 million between 2025 and 2027.
Construction is expected to restart no later than the end of 2025, with operations targeted to begin before 2028. Ecopetrol plans to partner with high-quality, experienced contractors for the development and execution phases, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to international standards.
A key pillar of the project’s development will be ongoing intercultural dialogue and engagement with the Wayuu indigenous communities whose territories intersect with the project area.
