India’s wind energy manufacturing sector has reached a significant milestone with Delta Electronics India manufacturing and shipping its 1,000th wind power converter to Envision Energy India, highlighting the growing role of domestic production in strengthening the country’s renewable energy supply chain.

Wind power converters are critical components that regulate variable electricity generated by turbines and ensure stable integration with the power grid. Historically, a significant portion of such advanced turbine equipment used in India was imported, exposing projects to global supply chain disruptions, longer lead times and currency fluctuations.

Delta Electronics India said the milestone demonstrates the capability of Indian engineering teams to manufacture wind power conversion equipment that meets global quality and performance standards. The company added that local production will help reduce dependence on overseas suppliers while improving supply chain resilience for India’s expanding wind energy sector.

“This milestone validates our long-term efforts to build advanced manufacturing capabilities in India and demonstrates that Indian engineering teams can deliver products meeting global standards,” said Benjamin Lin, President of Delta Electronics India.

The development comes as India accelerates efforts to expand domestic clean energy manufacturing to support its target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Government initiatives, including localization requirements and the Atmanirbhar Bharat program, have encouraged greater domestic production of renewable energy equipment and components.

RPV Prasad, Managing Director of Envision Energy India, said the partnership with Delta Electronics reflects India’s growing manufacturing capabilities and aligns with national clean energy goals. He highlighted that Indian companies are increasingly capable of delivering world-class renewable energy equipment at competitive prices while building a stronger domestic supply chain.

While the production milestone represents only a portion of India’s future wind energy equipment requirements, industry stakeholders said it marks an important step toward reducing import dependence and developing a self-reliant renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem.

As India works toward its 2030 renewable energy targets, increased domestic manufacturing capacity for critical components such as wind power converters is expected to play a key role in supporting large-scale renewable energy deployment.
