In response to growing demand for offshore high-voltage substations, GE’s Grid Solution business and EPCIC (turnkey platform) builder HSM Offshore Energy announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed by GE’s Grid Systems business and a global power industry system provider, GE Grid Solutions, to collaborate on future AC projects across Europe and beyond. This MoU will help speed up the energy transition by ensuring reliable connections between offshore wind resources and the power grid.

“We are happy to increase our collaboration with HSM Offshore Energy via this MoU. We offer complementary expertise to help support AC offshore wind substations across the market”. Philippe Piron, President & Chief Executive Officer of GE Grid Solutions, said that GE brings together project engineering and management expertise. Grid Solutions has been awarded significant contracts over the past 15 year to supply high-voltage AC (AC) systems to 18 offshore substations projects. These AC systems connect more than 5 GW of offshore European wind farms, specifically in France, Germany, Belgium and UK.

“We are happy to continue collaborating with GE Grid Solutions to jointly win and delivery offshore wind substations projects. HSM Offshore Energy is a pioneer in the delivery of integrated platform, module and jacket projects for upstream offshore energy sectors. This has been done for more than 60 years”. Jaco Lemmerzaal (Managing Director, HSM Offshore Energy) said that they were the pioneers in the offshore wind market with the delivery the first high-voltage substation offshore Denmark. This contributed to the connection for 3.5GW offshore wind farms across Europe, including the UK, Germany and Belgium. We have our own yard, with climate-controlled construction and assembly halls, deep-water side quays with North Sea access and a large number of loyal and experienced permanent staff that covers full turnkey capabilities.

HSM Offshore Energy and GE Grid Solutions have signed a MoU to support the development of offshore wind farms. This MoU provides a cost-effective and optimized turnkey value proposition that covers all aspects of engineering, procurement, manufacturing, grid compliance studies and full testing, pre-commissioning, transportation, installation at sea, and final hook-up and commissioning. Developers can also benefit from the ongoing standardization efforts by GE/HSM, who aim to achieve the lowest levelized costs of energy (LCOE), while removing interface risks for both the construction and operation phases of the offshore substations.
