Neoen, a world-renowned producer of renewable energy, has entered into a power purchase agreement for 40 MW from its Goyder South Stage 1 windfarm in South Australia.
Goyder South Stage 1, the first stage of Neoen’s flagship project, Goyder Renewables zone, is a hybrid wind-solar-storage project that is located in the state’s Mid-North. Goyder South is the largest state-owned renewable project. It has been approved for development to generate 1200 MW wind power, 600 MW solar power, and 900MW of battery storage. Construction on Stage 1 is underway, with 75 wind turbines totaling 412 MW. Operation are expected to begin in 2024.
Flow Power will buy close to 10% of Goyder South Stage 1’s generation capacity under the 10-year agreement. This PPA will allow Flow Power to supply affordable clean energy to South Australian industrial and commercial electricity customers.
This agreement is the second to be signed for Goyder South stage 1, following the 100 MW contract with the Australian Capital Territory Government (ACT), which was announced in September 2020.
Goyder Renewables Zone will benefit from the extraordinary wind and solar resources in the area. It will provide a significant economic boost for the region. Goyder South Stage 1 has created over 400 jobs in construction and 12 permanent full-time positions. The area will also share significant ongoing economic benefits with the Ngadjuri Traditional Owners.
Louis de Sambucy, Neoen Australia’s Managing director said, “We are thrilled to sign our first PPA to Flow Power, who provide competitively priced renewable electricity and emissions reductions for a wide variety of Australian businesses. Goyder South is more than a competitive project. It also has exceptional outcomes for the local economy and community.”
Matthew van der Linden is the CEO of Flow Power. He said: “Flow Power is proud that we are supporting Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 with our long-term PPA promise. This PPA is a significant contribution to Flow Power’s renewable energy portfolio. It will allow us to continue providing Australian energy consumers access to the best clean energy projects. We want to thank the Neoen team, for their outstanding performance throughout the PPA process and for the important community benefits that they are delivering as a part of this project.
Xavier Barbaro (Neoen’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer) concluded that We would love to thank Flow Power because they placed their trust in us. This second power purchase agreement was signed for Goyder South. It demonstrates our ability secure multiple offtake agreements within a single large-scale asset. This agreement demonstrates once again the strength of our energy in South Australia and Australia. Neoen is determined to deliver reliable, affordable clean energy to clients around Australia and the world.
