During the RES Serbia conference, WindEurope CEO Giles Dickson emphasized Serbia’s trajectory in expanding wind energy. He stressed the importance of utilizing European-made technology over increasing reliance on Chinese manufacturers, particularly in the Balkans.
While Serbia’s recent wind energy auction demonstrated success, Dickson urged the government to provide clear visibility on future auctions, emphasizing the drawbacks of opting for non-European turbines. Procuring turbines from outside Europe jeopardizes energy security, poses broader security concerns related to data management, and undermines the economic contributions of the European wind energy industry.
Dickson noted that installing non-European wind turbines is not in Europe’s collective interest, a stance aligned with the EU’s recognition of the issue. As Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in her State of the European Union speech, “The future of our clean tech industry has to be made in Europe”
