Suzlon Secures India’s Largest Wind Energy Order from NTPC Green Energy

Suzlon Group, the leading renewable energy solutions provider in India, has announced a landmark order for 1166 MW of wind energy from NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewables arm of NTPC Limited, India’s largest energy conglomerate. This deal, representing the largest wind energy order in the country’s history, involves the installation of 370 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of Suzlon’s S144 model, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, across three projects.

The projects include two under NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL, and one with IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd., a group company of NGEL, all located in Gujarat. As of September 3, 2024, this order brings Suzlon’s cumulative largest-ever order book close to 5 GW.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to collaborate with NTPC Green Energy Limited, the renewables arm of India’s largest utility, NTPC Limited. This significant order highlights our commitment to accelerating India’s renewable energy transition and marks our return to the PSU customer segment.”

He further emphasized that the project will become the largest wind energy initiative by a public sector undertaking (PSU) in Gujarat, setting a new standard for future projects and supporting India’s energy self-sufficiency, economic growth, and NGEL’s goal of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer of Suzlon Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration. “NGEL and Suzlon are leaders in their respective fields and will play a crucial role in India’s energy transition. This order not only represents the largest wind energy project for Suzlon but also signifies the beginning of a series of transformative projects between our organizations. We are committed to delivering this project with exceptional quality and adherence to timelines, showcasing the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative through local manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions.”

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines, oversee the installation, and provide operations and maintenance services post-commissioning for the projects in Gujarat.
