Tata Power’s shares surged by 3% on Monday, reaching an intraday high of ₹361.85 following the announcement of a significant renewable energy agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government.

The company’s subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop up to 7,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity in the state. The project, which includes solar, wind, and hybrid energy solutions, represents an estimated investment of ₹49,000 crore ($5.6 billion).

The agreement is a major boost to wind energy development in Andhra Pradesh, aligning with the state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy. As part of the initiative, TPREL will conduct feasibility studies and develop wind power projects, leveraging the region’s strong wind potential to enhance clean energy production. The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh will facilitate project site identification and evacuation infrastructure support.

Tata Power’s commitment to wind energy is part of its broader strategy to accelerate India’s transition to renewable energy. The latest deal is expected to strengthen its position in the clean energy market while contributing to India’s net-zero goals.
